Artist Statement
When I moved back to Milwaukee from Kentucky, I was looking up people I had known in the past. Judith Hooks, manager of Gallery 218, was one of them. After we got together a few times she asked me if I had any abstract drawings. I showed her some and she liked them. So through friendship I found a wonderful opportunity at Gallery 218 in the Marshall Building, Third Ward, Milwaukee, WI. Now I have been with them since 2022 showing art alongside Bernie Newman, Carole Glass, Judith Hooks, Janhke and Ellen Raines.
2006 grant to work in Kaditzch, Germany
In the late summer of 2006 I stayed as a guest for two months at Denkmalschmiede Hofgen Foundation in Kaditzch, Germany, located in the former eastern (communist) part of Germany.
While there I created six small colored pencil drawings of the Mandrake plant and the superstitions around it, especially about German superstitions. Also, I worked on a projection piece on the computer, called, "Only Gestures" . It was about my husband who had recently survived stomach cancer and could not speak for a few months. This piece can be found on Youtube under his name, Yehuda Yannay.
